Timless Travertine

Travertine is a form of limestone deposited by mineral springs, especially hot springs. Travertine often has a fibrous or concentric appearance and exists in white, tan, and cream-colored varieties. It is formed by a process of rapid precipitation of calcium carbonate,  often at the mouth of a hot spring or in a limestone cave. It is frequently used in Italy and elsewhere as a building material.

Travertine is known rather to strengthen and improve with age. The colors of Travertine will not fade over time; they will maintain their natural color for decades.

Travertine is not only a timeless stone, but with each piece lies a story. In fact, the Romans used 100,000 cubic meters of the travertine in the building of the Coliseum which was completed in 80 A.D. [Even] to this day through natural disasters, stone robberies, and everyday wear it has held up beautifully to be over 2000 years old, so travertine isn’t just an option for your flooring design, but an opportunity to make a lasting impression.

When building or remodeling, nothing seems to be quite more of a focal feature to a room than one’s flooring. Its allurement and draw create a tone and atmosphere tying a room’s elements into a main theme for design. No tile more so than perhaps the travertine suggests such an infinitely ending contemporary beauty that has survived the ages.

Come in and see our samples at Nelson Tile and Stone. Our sales staff would be happy to assist you in finding just the perfect Travertine selection for your needs. We have lots of magazines with more ideas of how to use Travertine in your home, feel free to browse through them. You can also visit our vendors websites such as Pental or Daltile.

During the Holiday season who wants to hear the word SLIM? Slimlite Slate and Quartzite that is...

I hate to say these words after enjoying one Christmas party after another endulging on all the goodies at hand, but maybe "sometimes slim is better!" So of course I am not talking about body size but a new product. I am talking about Daltile's new line, Slimlite Slate and Quartzite.

For thousands of years, natural stone has been admired for its ability to add unmatched elegance to any design. Daltile’s new Slimlite Slate and Quartzite brings this beauty to applications in which the weight and thickness of natural stone may have traditionally limited these options.

Slimlite Slate and Quartzite is a revolutionary new surfacing product created by splitting raw material from actual slate and quartzite quarries into very thin layers of stone. These thin layers are bonded to a fiberglass backing, producing a strong yet flexible piece of stone, making it an ideal facade for installation over existing surfaces and remodels.

Durability and flexibility allow Slimlite Slate and Quartzite to be installed over surfaces including concrete, ceramic, wood, metal, plywood, fiberglass, backer board, tile, dry wall, painted surfaces, MDF, door skins, cabinetry, columns and beyond.

Slimlite Slate and Quartzite weigh less that 0.5 lbs. per square foot and are about 1/8” thick.  Panels are available 12” x 24” and 24” x 48”.  Need something bigger to solve your decorating dilemma?  Don’t despair.  Custom orders are available, up to 35” x 94”.  There are six colors to choose from and Daltile does plan on stocking those colors.

The implications of how this product can be used are pretty incredible (not only for designers, who can now be ultra-creative in their designs, but for you—the homeowner).  Slimlite allows you to transform any area into an elegant space, at a fraction of the cost of traditional stone.  And, given the line-up of materials over which it can be installed, consider the savings you will have not tearing out old materials (and less mess).

Come in to our showroom and see our samples of Slimlite Slate and Quartzite. Back to my snacking now that we are done talking slim. :)

Happy Holidays!

Barrier free showers at Nelson Tile and Stone

We are proud at Nelson Tile and Stone to offer barrier free/roll in showers for both able-bodied and disabled people.

Our drain systems allow you to eliminate the barriers and threshold of a shower, creating an ADA shower that is universal design approved.
We can create a shower with a linear drain covered by a smooth outer panel with small drain holes. This fully sloped drain trough is a long, flat surface that allows the easy draining of water from the shower. This makes a wheelchair accessible shower possible with a barrier free entrance. Water from the shower no longer poses the risk of running all over the floor because it is caught in the drain.
Linear drains for showers are used to create fabulous no threshold shower designs. Made from high strength stainless steel, they can withstand even hard water coming out of your shower.

Another advantage of our trench drains for showers is that they are of universal design, meaning they can be used in an area that both able-bodied and handicapped persons can use with the same ease. If you have someone in your family who is bound to a wheelchair, the linear drain shower design creates barrier free showers for a bathroom making it easier to roll a wheelchair straight to the showers.

Whether you are still in the planning process for your new home and want a modern no threshold shower, or you are just doing a bathroom renovation to add wet room showers, you can enjoy the benefits a linear drain shower brings to the table.

Furthermore, the quick drain technology developed in  trench drain shower system minimizes the growth of mold in your bathroom or shower area. This translates to lower health risks for you and your family or for anyone using your shower and helps in lowering unwanted smells and odors.
We are installing barrier free showers  in response to the need of the community to help the aging and those with disabilities modify their homes to fit their needs.
Please come into our showroom to find out more about our barrier free showers.
